Summary of Lecture:
Technological breakthroughs are game changers for many countries, industries and individual lives. Our cars, homes, cities and even nations are increasingly connected and getting 'smart' for our convenience. This intensifying connectivity has contributed to better competitiveness and higher productivity boosting the economic growth. On the other side of the coin, there are 'smart' criminals committing 'smart' crimes. Unfortunately, connectivity has opened up new opportunities for them. They can access targets which they couldn't approach in the past. Cybercrime, in particular, is a growing and complex threat with global impact. In this unpredictable security landscape, it is crucial for police to stay one step ahead of criminals by fostering innovation and harnessing new technologies. In fact, INTERPOL's vision is to make the world a safer place by connecting police in our 192 member countries. However, connecting one police to another is not sufficient in this highly interconnected world. To this end, INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation was created in 2015 not only to connect one police to another, but also to private sector and academia who have more knowledge and technical expertise on innovative security solutions, especially to support our member countries in combating cybercrime.
