[Information] CPS Center: Digital Identity Study Group "Deepfake and Criminal Law" (August 29, 2023)
2023.08.07The widespread use of AI technology has enabled the creation of "deepfakes," realistic audio or video images that can be manipulated to depict individuals in fabricated situations. These can be misused in political contexts to create false statements, or in more personal contexts to create deepfake pornography.
The legal framework surrounding such manipulation is complex and often lacking, as current laws may not cover the alteration of images or videos. The link between existing legislation such as the law to prevent revenge pornography and the law to prohibit child pornography also needs to be further explored.
The workshop will be organized to address the interpretation of criminal law and the direction of legislation to provide legal protection for personal identity in cyberspace.
